I haven’t met a single person on this plane[t] without their share of difficulties, or hardship. Often, it’s the person with the biggest smile in the room that carries the deepest wound.
This is a very interpretive piece, depending on your world view. I used dark undertones, with textures of stone and concrete to convey the atmosphere of a prison. This is reflective of the quote:
“The mind is its own place and in itself, can make a Heaven out of Hell – a Hell out of heaven.”
In the center of the piece is a kneeling figure, holding what appears to be a small figure – or a book with golden letters. The kneeling figure is symbolic of the embodiment that goes beyond our life, and into the realm of spirit.
Should you view the item in its hands to be a figure, it’s representative of ego death; with the golden heart shining through the shell of the ego.
Viewing this through a religious lens, you can see a kneeling figure holding a book of scripture.
Behind the figure are the distorted letters, spelling out “RESURRECTION” which is symbolic of the many transformations we must make in our lives.
At the time of this painting, I am mid-chapter in a period of personal resurrection, ego death, and humility.
This piece represents my desire to build something new from the many broken pieces of my life.
