This piece is about consequence. For most of life, I was raised to fear eternal damnation in hell. It wasn’t until I got older than I realized heaven and hell are both within your reach.
I painted this while listening to “Going to Hell” by The Pretty Reckless. The song was written after Hurricane Sandy, which ruined the band’s studio, equipment, etc. In spite of the loss, they were able to rebuild and record one of their most successful albums after the hurricane.
In my life, I’ve had my share of sins. Each of which I’ve paid for – without expectation of any savior coming in to take my punishment.
I titled the piece “Angel” because no matter what darkness I find myself, there has always been a ray of light that’s kept me encouraged to continue the journey of self-discovery, forgiveness, and accountability.
